It is indeed a pleasure to welcome you to the Elementary Department of New School-International School of Georgia where our vision of, “Promoting International Understanding through Education” is practiced on a daily basis. New School is a bilingual school offering the option of learning in English or Georgian. We are proud to have the distinction of being the first school in Georgia to become an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School.

As an IB World School we are authorized to teach the Primary Years Programme (PYP), which is an inquiry-based curriculum that encourages international-mindedness, a positive attitude to learning, as well as meaningful, in-depth inquiry into real issues. Within the PYP curriculum students are provided with a foundation that includes essential concepts, knowledge, skills and attitudes. In addition to focusing on what students learn we also place a strong emphasis on how students learn. More information about the IBPYP can be found on the IBO website at www.ibo.org.

Our classroom teachers teach the core subjects of Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies within integrated units of inquiry, as well as in single subject lessons. Each class visits the library a minimum of once a week. Specialist teachers teach the subjects of Art, Physical Education, Swimming, Music, Georgian, Russian and French. Where it is meaningful and relevant, the single subjects are integrated with the class units of inquiry. English or Georgian language support are offered for those children who have limited or no understanding of their particular language of instruction.

Our qualified, dedicated native language speaking classroom teachers have experience working with students of varying nationalities and levels of English or Georgian language fluency. The small class size enables each teacher to encourage the children to work to their potential, to take responsibility for their learning as well as to be reflective learners within a caring, supportive environment.
